UNIVERSITY of the Philippines coach Godfrey Okumu rued the Lady Maroons' flat start that led to a frustrating 9-25, 25-27, 20-25 loss to Adamson University in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
The Kenyan coach watched his team struggle early, particularly in allowing the Lady Falcons to go on a 17-4 start and score eight of their 17 service aces in the first set.
"The first set was really a big deal for me as a coach because that's how the game started. If you start well, you play well all through,” Okumu said. “But if you start in a shaky way the way we were shaking with our passing, then that's how we get the results.”
“But as I said before, we will fight back. We are coming back,” he added.
UP spent almost an hour in its post-game huddle but Okumu only reminded his wards to remain positive despite being down 1-2 at the sixth spot tied University of Santo Tomas and Ateneo.
“We were just talking about our way forward,” he said. “I'm trying to bring the team together, why we lost, what we should have done better, and way forward.”
UP will face Far Eastern University on Saturday.
