ALAS Pilipinas' prospects in the 2026 AVC Women's Cup just took another hit.
La Salle stars Angel Canino, Shevana Laput, and Amie Provido have all officially withdrawn from consideration for the continental meet in Candon City, opting instead to rest and recover following their UAAP Season 88 title run.

The news was shared Thursday through Canino’s Instagram story, where the Lady Spikers' ace announced the trio’s decision days after they committed to keep wearing green-and-white for one last ride in Season 89.
“To be invited to the National Team training pool is a privilege I never take for granted, and playing for the Philippine flag is the highest honor,” Canino wrote.
“However, coming off the high intensity of UAAP Season 88, Amie, Shevana, and I have decided to prioritize our physical recovery. We first need to let our bodies heal and reset so that we can give our best to the game.”
The withdrawal of the Lady Spikers standouts now effectively removes the entire Alas roster from the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, including former head coach Jorge Souza de Brito.
In short, the national team now heads towards a complete reset.
The development comes amid an already turbulent buildup for the Philippines, which has recently dealt with multiple player withdrawals, player and coaching injuries, and availability concerns ahead of the June 6 to 14 tournament in Ilocos Sur.

Several key names have likewise become unavailable for the national team pool, including erstwhile skipper Jia de Guzman, Bella Belen, Alyssa Solomon, Shaina Nitura, Mars Alba, and Justine Jazareno.
Have a break
For Canino, Laput, and Provido, however, the decision ultimately came down to the need to hit pause after helping steer La Salle to just the third 16-0 season sweep in UAAP history.
The trio made it clear, though, that skipping this year’s AVC Women’s Cup does not lessen their support for the national team.
“We’ve communicated this to the PNVF and while we won’t be on the court this time, our hearts are with the team as they compete in the AVC Women’s Cup 2026,” Canino wrote.
