UNIVERSITY of the Philippines veteran spiker Nicole Tiamzon was cleared to play on Sunday against National University in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament.
The graduating outside hitter sprained her right ankle after an awkward landing during their match against Far Eastern University on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
But UP team manager Cecile Ronquillo assured Tiamzon is fine and was given the green light by doctors to return to action.
“Don't worry, you'll see her back playing by Sunday,” said Ronquillo in an interview with CNN Philippines.
The UP sports official also added that Tiamzon’s injury was ‘nothing serious.’
After a four-game winning run, the Lady Maroons absorbed back-to-back losses and Tiamzon’s presence on Sunday will be a big boost for the team when it faces the struggling Lady Bulldogs.
Tiamzon was averaging 12 points per game in their four-game blast but only scored four markers in their last two games.
UP holds a 4-2 card, while NU dropped its last three games after opening the season with a three-game winning streak.
