Cignal, Mega Builders one win away from PVL Open finals

CIGNAL and Mega Builders moved a step closer to the finals with big wins in the opening semifinal matches the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.

The HD Spikers defeated Sta. Elena Wrecking Balls, 25-16, 25-16, 20-25, 25-18 in the first match of the best-of-three series.

Skipper Ysay Marasigan finished with 17 points for Cignal, Rex Intal and Lorenzo Capate added 13 markers apiece, while Peter Torres chipped in 10 markers.

Isaah Arda scored 13 points for Sta. Elena.

Mega Builders survived Philippine Air Force, 19-25, 16-25, 25-20, 26-24, 15-10.

Bryan Bagunas, back after a 13-day training camp with the Philippine national volleyball team in South Korea, scored 20 points for the Volley Bolt. 

Francis Saura added 18 markers for Mega Builders, Fauzi Ismail scored 16 and Kim Malabunga added 10 points.

Jeffrey Malabanan and Howard Mojica scored 16 points each for the Jet Spikers.

Cignal and Mega Builders can close out the series on Sunday. Deciders, if necessary, will be played on Wednesday.
