Philippine volleyball team begins Osaka phase of training with tough stand vs Ryukoku U

THE women’s national team started the second phase of its Japan training camp with a 21-25, 22-25, 26-24, 26-24 draw with Ryukoku University in Osaka City on Wednesday.

Jaja Santiago scored 26 points, from 21 kills, two blocks and three service aces, in the friendly while Jovelyn Gonzaga added nine points on attacks.

Seasoned setters Rhea Dimaculangan and Kim Fajardo choreographed the nationals’ offense with 20 and 33 excellent sets, respectively.

Mika Ortiz also had seven points for the PH team, while Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and skipper Mika Reyes had five markers apiece and Alyssa Valdez registered three kills and one block.

The team will have a tune-up match against Osaka Superiors on Thursday.

The PH volleybelles held the first phase of training camp in Okayama City and will stay in the historic city of Osaka for the next six days before they return to the Philippines on August 2.
