THE door remains open for players who failed to show up during Monday night's volleyball showcase involving members of both the men and women's training pool.

But their absence could weigh heavily against their inclusion in the final roster being formed for the coming Southeast Asian Games this August in Kuala Lumpur.

Officials of the Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas Inc. (LVPI) stressed the selection process anew the day after the succesaful staging of the Clash of Heroes on Monday at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

"I think so," said LVPI vice president Peter Cayco. "Kasi may deviced na point system yung coaching staff for practices, exhibition games."

"So this could be one of the factors," added Cayco, who appeared with LVPI president Joey Romasanta in Tuesday's Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum (PSA) at the Golden Phoenx Hotel.

Alyssa Valdez and other top volleyball stars failed to show up for Monday's event in San Juan, although national coach Francis Vicente gave the absentees a week to 'show their intent to join the team.'

Aside from Valdez, other no-shows on Monday were Grethcel Soltones, Aby Marano, Rachel Anne Daquis, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Kim Fajardo, Kim Dy and Dawn Macandili.

Daquis and Gonzaga however, are both in Japan where Cignal is currently holding a training camp.

The 18-man and 18-woman training pool will be announced on Friday.

Cayco said the players were given a break in practice Tuesday and the next two sessions will determine who will move on in the selection process.

“The names will be submitted to the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games organizers and will be trimmed down to the final 12 on the last day allowed by the organizers,” said Cayco.

“Wednesday and Thursday (practice sessions) will be very crucial. Then on Thursday night coaches will meet to decide on the lineup to be announced on Friday afternoon,” he said.
