THE tears finally stopped falling for University of Santo Tomas top hitter Sisi Rondina as she was all smiles with the team effort in a big win over University of the Philippines to keep their Final Four hopes alive in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament.

After five straight losses, UST got back on its feet after a 19-25, 30-28, 25-20, 25-16 win over UP on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.

Rondina, who couldn’t help but cry in their previous losses, shared that she gave her teammates a pre-game pep talk and asked them to step up. And she was more than happy to see them respond well.

“Sabi ko na ‘wag niyo akong pasikatin, ‘wag niyong pasikatin ‘yung Sisi lang, gusto ko ‘yung pangalan naman ng school natin (ang sumikat),” said the hard-hitting Cebuana.

“And sabi ko na walang isang taong magtatrabaho kaya sabi ko nga ito ‘yung lugar muna namin, trabaho muna namin, so ayun doon kami nagkakaintindihan kaya ‘yun ang kinalabasan ng team,” she added.

Although volleyball fans are saying that Rondina’s efforts were being wasted after their five straight losses, she thought otherwise.

“Hindi naman (sila nagsorry sa akin), ako nagsorry ako sa kanila kasi aminado ako na pangit din ‘yung laro ko,” she said.

The win kept UST in contention as the Tigresses improved to 3-7, tied for sixth with the Lady Maroons.

UST has four games remaining in the second round - National University (March 25), Ateneo (April 4), La Salle (April 8), Adamson (April 14).

“Sabi ko lang na babangon at babangon (tayo), kapit lang, kung kaya pang kumapit, kapit lang,” said Rondina.
