UST Tigers, La Salle Green Spikers score big opening-day wins in PVL Collegiate Conference

UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas and La Salle scored big opening-day wins in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.

UST capitalized on an error-plagued performance of University of the Philippines to score a 25-17, 25-22, 25-15 victory.

Although it was only Joshua Umandal who reached in double-digit scoring with 13 points for the Tigers, the squad managed to score a comfortable win, getting 28 extra points from UP’s miscues.

Arnold Bautista and Jayvee Sumagsaysay combined for 14 markers in the first set alone.

Nicolo Consuelo and Wendel Miguel each had eight markers for UP.

Meanwhile, La Salle beat College of St. Benilde, 25-27, 26-24, 25-23, 25-22.

Cris Dumago scored 18 points, Raymark Woo and Arjay Onia each had 16 points and John delos Reyes chipped in 11.   

Isaah Arda finished with 21 points for reigning NCAA champion CSB.

The Blazers are looking to prove that there’s life after the graduation of former ace John Vic de Guzman, captain of the national volleyball team that saw action in the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur.
