UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas and La Salle bounced back from opening losses as they disposed of separate foes in the UAAP beach volleyball tournament at MOA Sands by the Bay on Friday.

The defending champion Tigresses made short work of the National University duo of Roma Doromal and Jasmine Nabor, 21-14, 21-14, while the Lady Spikers, runner-up to UST last year, whipped University of the Philippines, 21-14, 21-15.

Cherry Rondina and Rica Rivera earlier bowed to Adamson, 21-16, 17-21, 13-15, during their season debut. Rivera admitted the early morning rush also added to their stress.

“Hindi kasi kami ‘yung tipo ng nagmamadali or minamadali namin ang mga bagay,” said Rivera, who was having dysmenorrhea.

“Eh kaninang umaga na-traffic kami sa Osmena (highway) kaya na-pressure kami magmadali kaya wala na kami nagawang tama.”

Meanwhile, the Lady spikers were quick to regain their poise following a 15-21, 21-17, 14-16 loss to Far Eastern University.

Despite having fever, Kim Fajardo combined with Cyd Demecillo to turn back the UP pair of Vila Alinas and Arielle Estranero.

“May fever ako actually noong Wednesday pa,” wishpered Fajardo, while holding on to her throat. “Mabigat ang pakiramdam ko, masakit pa ang lalamunan ko pero ayaw ko naman ‘yun gawing excuse.”
