UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas rookie Milena Alessandrini will sit out the rest of the first round of the eliminations of the UAAP women’s volleyball season after suffering a shoulder injury.

UST coach Kungfu Reyes confirmed on Sunday that the Fil-Italian outside spiker sustained a partial tear on the suprastinatus tendon on her right shoulder that will keep her out of action for a long stretch.

“Hindi na namin isusugal. Babayaan muna namin sa locals ‘to,” said Reyes. “Kesa mawala ng matagal, gagawan na namin ng paraan. ‘Di ko alam kung (hanggang kailan) wala pero baka buong first round na.”

Alessandrini’s injury added to the woes of the Tigresses, who also saw libero Rica Rivera go down with a knee injury during their match against Ateneo.

The 6-foot-1 spiker, who has been nursing her injury since her league debut against La Salle, averaged 11.67 points in her first three games with the Tigresses.

Reyes is confident that his players will step up.

“Oo, babalik at babalik kami. Alam naman namin ang tao namin,” he said after the 25-16, 22-25, 22-25, 23-25 loss to the Lady Eagles. “Sabi nga, it’s just a bad game."
