Kungfu Reyes defends EJ Laure amid rumors on sudden pullout from UST
UST coach Kungfu Reyes sets the record straight on the reason behind EJ Laure's unavailability this season.

ITS been a month since University of Santo Tomas star EJ Laure was ruled out of the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament due to a shoulder injury.

Yet rumors continue to swirl on social media on his sudden pullout to this day.

UST Tigresses coach Kungfu Reyes said he can no longer stand to see his ward being attacked from all sides so he decided to speak up and clear the issue, hopefully once and for all.

“Alam mo, ang dami din nga (akong naririnig), kahit ako naguguluhan din ako eh. Kung ako lang may katawan, masasagot ko lahat eh,” he said at the end of UST practice.

Depending on what you read, rumors have cited failed grades and even pregnancy as the reason for the UST star's decision to skip the coming UAAP season.

But Reyes set the record straight that it was an injury that forced Laure out.

“‘Yung dati niyang (injury) kanan (na shoulder)," he said when asked about Laure's injury. "Ang term na ginamit is chronic shoulder injury.”

The outspoken mentor also belied claims by some netizens that poor grades kept the powerful spiker out of the Tigresses lineup.

“Ngayon aside from that, malalaman namin kasi ang grades pa kasi paglabas ng portal nila,” said Reyes, adding he expects all the rumors to end once Laure shows up to watch the team's games.

“Sa mga susunod na araw makikita niyo naman si EJ sa laro manonood at manood ‘yun, hindi naman pwedeng maiwan.”

Reyes asked readers to always verify what they read on social media.

“Sa mga readers, kung ano ang nababasa nila, for you to find out kung totoo o tama o mali ang binabasa mo,” he said.

“Kung ano ang sinabi nila doon na lang ako magre-rely (kay EJ) kasi tao sa tao na ‘yun eh. Ganoon naman ‘yun (mas maniniwala ako kay EJ),” he added.
