UNIVERSITY of the Philippines ended its stint in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament with a 14-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-23 victory over University of the East on Saturday at the Blue Eagle Gym in Ateneo in Katipunan.

Isa Molde led the Lady Maroons with 19 points, skipper Tots Carlos added 14 and Marian Buitre added 11.

“I hoped and I wished we should’ve won 3-0 but 3-1 is still a good result. It’s done. They finished strong and it’s time for party,” said UP coach Godfrey Okumu.

“Laban. We are the Fighting Maroons so they fought well. I believe coming next season, we’ll still continue fighting. I trust this team. I love the players and I believe they’ll get the work done always,” he added.

UP was ahead, 16-13, in the third set when UE countered with an 8-0 run to snatch the lead, 21-16.

But the Lady Maroons went on a 6-0 rally to regain the upper hand, 22-21.

Graduating UE spiker Shaya Adorador ended her UAAP career with 15 points from 10 attacks and five aces, Mary Ann Mendrez added 13 and Judith Abil had 12.

The Lady Warriors finished the season with a 2-12 record, still higher than their previous records of 1-13 in Seasons 78 and 79, while they were winless in Seasons 76 and 77.
