UNIVERSITY of the East athletic director Rod Roque officially named Karl Dimaculangan as the new head coach of the Lady Warriors on Saturday after their last game in the UAAP Season 80 women's volleyball tournament.

UE ended the season with a loss to University of the Philippines, 25-14, 22-25, 23-25, 23-25, but Roque had a good news.

During the post-game interview, Roque announced the news that Dimaculangan, who’s currently the assistant coach of the Lady Warriors, will handle the team starting next season.

“Si Coach Karl Dimaculangan, siya na coach. Ginawa ko na yung contract niya actually,” confirmed Roque, who served as the interim coach for UE midway in Season 80.

Dimaculangan played for University of Santo Tomas in his college years and was part of UST’s four-peat success 2007-2011.

He was also a former three-time UAAP Best Server from Seasons 70-72.

The newly appointed head coach is also the brother of former UST setter Rhea Dimaculangan.

Meanwhile, Roque will serve as a consultant for the women’s team.

“Now, I will act as consultant kasi ayaw ng management bitawan ko women’s,” he said.

“Actually they wanted me to be the coach na permanent, sabi ko teka muna po I will think about it first, I’ll recommend coach muna then I’ll act as consultant,” he added.

Roque led the Lady Warriors to two wins nine games, he exceeded the record of former coach Francis Vicente, who had two wins in 47 matches.
