THE sudden change in UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball Finals schedule is both good and bad news for Ateneo hitter Michelle Morente.

The best-of-three Finals was supposed to start on Saturday but due to the Asean Summit, Game One of the best-of-three Finals between Ateneo and La Salle has been moved to May 2.

While it gave the Lady Eagles more time to prepare for the finals rematch, the new schedule also fell on exam week in Ateneo.

“For us kasi next week is finals week na namin and ‘yung iba ay pre-finals,” she said. “So parang, finals sa academics, finals sa volleyball, sabay-sabay.”

The third-year opposite spiker, however, is not complaining, saying such scenario is only natural for student-athletes.

“So feeling ko, sobrang hirap for us to manage our time, especially important games and important din sa amin ‘yung school,” she said.

Morente also hopes that they can use the next days to recuperate from their injuries.

Bea de Leon is nursing a sprained foot, Jia Morado is playing through back pain, Kat Tolentino and Jho Maraguinot are dealing with knee issues, and Morente herself is nursing an abdominal strain.

“I think everyone on the team, may injury,” said Maraguinot. “Sana ‘yung may mga injury maka-recover na rin habang mahaba pa ang intay namin.”

“May times pa para mag-therapy, para at least pagdating ng finals, okay na,” she added.

Ateneo is gunning for its third title, while La Salle is in search of a back-to-back championship and a 10th title overall.
