ARA Galang led from the front anew as La Salle easily beat University of the Philippines, 25-16, 25-20, 25-21, in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan on Saturday.

La Salle top skipper fired 20 points on 16 spikes, three blocks and one service ace while Cyd Demecillo added 10 as the Lady Spikers rolled to their fourth win in a row in one hour and 16 minutes.

Coach Ramil de Jesus, who steered La Salle to eight UAAP titles including two three-peats, said the team is more concerned at this point with its preparations rather than its record.

“Kailangan maghanda ka ng maghanda, huwag mong isipin ‘yung panalo,” he said. “Ang importante mapaghandaan mo ‘yung kalaban para kapag dumating ‘yung situation na nandun na, kung maging okay, good, kung ‘di maging okay, kailangang maghanda ka pa rin sa susunod."

The only time UP showed semblance of a fight was in the third set when it took a 7-2 lead before Galang and Demecillo worked together to regain control for La Salle, 20-16.

Skipper Nicole Tiamzon came away with 17 points while last year’s best blocker Kathy Bersola added 10 for the Lady Maroons, who dropped to the solo seventh spot with a 1-3 win-loss card.
