DEFENDING champion Ateneo aims to extend its winning streak when it battles Far Eastern University in the resumption of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum on Saturday.

Alyssa Valdez and the rest of the Lady Eagles are coming off a 25-16, 25-18, 25-14 demolition of Adamson for their second straight win and a tie with rival De La Salle on top of the standings with identical 2-0 slates.

But the Lady Eagles will definitely have their hands full against the Lady Tamaraws in their 2 p.m. encounter.

“Every team may pinag-hahandaan pare-pareho ang preparations,” said Valdez, the popular Ateneo skipper. “Hindi naman namin iniisip na defending champion kami.”

The reigning league MVP, who had a total of 43 points in six sets, is again expected to take the lead for Ateneo along with Michelle Morente and Ella de Jesus.

FEU will lean on sophomore Bernadette Pons and twin towers Remy Palma and Geneveve Casugod as the Lady Tamaraws currently hold a 1-0 card for second place in a tie with University of Santo Tomas.

Meanwhile, winless squads National University and University of the Philippines tangle against each other in the second game at 4p.m.

The Lady Bulldogs have lost their first two games against Ateneo (21-25, 18-25, 15-25) and La Salle (22-25, 12-25, 15-25).

UP, on the other hand, is aiming to recover from a 14-25, 24-26, 20-25 loss to FEU. Expected to banner the Lady Maroons are stalwarts Kathy Bersola, Nicole Tiamzon, and Angeli Araneta.
