Bagunas, Gampong lift NU over UP for ninth straight win in UAAP men's volleyball

NATIONAL University and Adamson grinded out wins against separate foes in the UAAP Season 80 men’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.

Madzlan Gampong and Bryan Bagunas led NU to a four-set victory over University of the Philippines, 25-12, 19-25, 25-15, 25-20.

Gampong finished with 21 points, from 15 kills, one ace and five of the team’s 10 blocks, while Bagunas had 19 markers, built on 14 attacks.

NU cruised to its ninth straight win as it improved to 10-2 at the solo No. 1 spot ahead of Ateneo and Far Eastern University with identical 9-2 win-loss records.

Skipper Francis Saura also had 13 points for the Bulldogs, while James Natividad and Kim Malabunga each had 10 markers in a match that took an hour and 33 minutes to finish.

Wendel Miguel made 23 points for UP, while team captain Jerry San Pedro chipped in 13 and John Millette added 11. The Diliman-based squad slid to 3-9.

Meanwhile, Adamson downed La Salle, 25-22, 16-25, 25-15, 29-27.

Paolo Pablico made 17 points for Adamson, while George Labang Jr. had 16, Mark Alvarez contributed 15 and Leo Miranda finished with 10.

Raymark Woo and John Onia each had 18 points for La Salle, while Cris Dumago had 11 and John delos Reyes made 10.
