FAR Eastern University survived a brief scare from winless University of the East, scoring a 25-18, 25-22, 25-27, 25-11, victory on Saturday in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Tamaraws bounced back from a five-set loss to the Ateneo Lady Eagles and evened their win-loss record to 2-2.

UE is winless in four matches.

Bernadeth Pons scored 17 points and Jerrili Malabanan added 15, including four service aces for the Lady Tamaraws.

“Baka may hangover pa rin kami ng pagkatalo namin sa Ateneo pero wala kaming dapat ikahiya doon kasi sobrang ganda ng laban so para sa amin malaki ang natutunan namin doon,” said FEU coach Shaq de los Santos.

UE overcame FEU in a tough exchange in the third, with Shaya Adorador scoring on a through the block kill that extended the match.

It was only the second set taken by the Lady Warriors in the tournament. UE also took a set from National University in the opener.

“Breaks lang sa game kasi imagine madami ring errors ang UE pero kami pa rin ang natalo doon sa set na ‘yun,” said delos Santos of their third set meltdown.

“Kaya kinausap lang namin ang players na hindi pwedeng ganun gamin lang, ‘di kami pwedeng magpabaya,” he added.

Adorador finished with 12 points, Mary Anne Mendrez added 10 markers for the Lady Warriors.
