CIGNAL turned back Generika-Ayala, 25-24, 23-25, 26-24, 25-14, to move up to second spot in the Belo-Philippine Super Liga Invitational Conference at The Arena in San Juan on Thursday.

Jovelyn Gonzaga led the way with 13 points while Honey Royse Tubino added 12 and Mummy Vivas and Rachel Anne Daquis 10 apiece in Cignal's third win in four games.

“Doon natest ang individual character ng team, kung gaano katibay,” said Cignal coach George Pascua after his team moved just behind unbeaten Petron (4-0) in the standings.

“At saka as a team, doon mo makikita ang skills ng bawat isa kung sino ang gagamitin mo sa crucial, sino ang pang start,” he added.

The HD Spikers rained down 13 aces on Generika's defense compared to the Life Savers’ six in the match that took almost two hours to finish.

Still, Pascua sees a lot of areas they need to work on before facing Cocolife in their next assignment on Saturday.

“Marami pa (kami dapat i-improve) kasi ang laban paganda nang paganda, lahat ng teams nagma-mature, tumitibay lahat,” he said.

Angeli Araneta and Fiona Ceballos made 12 points apiece for Generika-Ayala while skipper Gen Casugod added 11 and Patty Orendain made 10.

Generika-Ayala dropped to 1-2.
