Soltones-led SSC Lady Stags sweep elims, gain thrice-to-beat edge in NCAA finals

San Sebastian rode on Grethcel Soltones to turn back a gritty St. Benilde, 25-20, 22-25, 25-17, 25-18, on Sunday and complete a sweep the elimination round of the 91st NCAA women's volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

The crisp-hitting Soltones had a match-high 32 hits, 24 on kills, six on services aces and two on blocks, as the Lady Stags completed a nine-game sweep of the elims to head straight to the finals where they will enjoy a thrice-to-beat edge.

"She's just playing inspired right now," said San Sebastian coach Roger Gorayeb of Soltones.

Soltones and the rest of San Sebastian now awai their finals foe, which will come from defending champion Arellano U (8-1), Perpetual Help (7-2) and St. Benilde (6-3).

The Lady Altas, who smothered the Letran Lady Knights, 25-12, 25-23, 25-21, earlier in the day, will play the Lady Blazers in a knockout duel on Tuesday.

The winner will face the Lady Chiefs in another do-or-die contest for the right to face the thrice-to-beat Lady Stags for the championship.
