SAN Beda College turned back Jose Rizal University, 23-25, 25-19, 13-25, 25-19, 15-9, in the NCAA Season 93 women’s volleyball tournament on Friday at The Arena in San Juan.

Maria Nieza Viray made 19 points for SBC, while skipper Cesca Racraquin added 13 and Sattriani Espiritu scored 11.

“Test of character na ‘yun (fifth set), kung ibigay nila (sa kalaban) nasa kanila na ‘yun. (Sabi ko sa kanila) pinaghirapan na namin, ‘wag na namin sayangin,” said San Beda coach Nemesio Gavino Jr.

SBC had more attacks (56-43) but JRU was better on net defense (8-0) in a match that took almost two hours to finish.

“Sa nakita ko sa JRU, malaki ang improvement, pursigido ang mga tao nila (na manalo) and nahirapan kami,” said Gavino Jr.

Dolly Versoza and team captain Shola Alvarez worked together for JRU with 18 and 17 points, respectively.
