San Beda downs Lyceum in three sets to gain share of lead in NCAA women's volleyball

SAN Beda overcame Lyceum of the Philippines’ solid start, hammering out a 29-27, 25-13, 25-14 victory on Monday to gain a share of the lead in the women's division of the 92nd NCAA volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

Francesca Racraquin had 11 hits, while twins Nieza and Jiezela Viray combined for 16 points as the Red Spikers scored their third victory in a row to join defending champion St. Benilde and San Sebastian on top.

Racraquin and the Virays stepped big in the first set when they had to parry every challenge launched by the Lady Pirates.

LPU  wasn't the same after the heartbreaking first set defeat and suffered their first loss after two wins.

Arellano University moved to a share of fourth spot, downing Mapua, 25-17, 25-8, 18-25, 25-18.

Team captain Rialen Sante scored 14 and Mary Anne Esquerra added 12 as the Lady Chiefs scored their second win in three starts, matching Lyceum and Jose Rizal University.

In men's play, Arellano bested Mapua, 25-22, 25-19, 23-25, 25-21, to zoom to the top with a 3-0 win-loss record.

John Joseph Cabillan had 17 hits, Kevin Liberato scored 15 and skipper Benrasid Latip came up with 13 points.

The Cardinals fell to 2-2.
