COACH Roger Gorayeb said he feels his stepping down may be the nswer to the National University Lady Bulldogs' problems.

The veteran mentor and former national coach admitted contemplating on quitting his NU job after yet another lackluster performance by the Lady Bulldogs in a loss to defending champion Ateneo on Wednesday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.

Gorayeb, who also coaches San Sebastian in the NCAA, joined to the team in January 2015 to replace Dong dela Cruz.

“It’s either I go out of the team na lang. Baka ‘yun ang solusyon?” a frustrated Gorayeb said after the Lady Bulldogs’ 24-26, 17-25, 19-25 loss to the Lady Eagles.

The loss came at a time when NU appeared to be finally righting the ship with its 25-18, 25-12, 25-18 demolition of Adamson in its previous game, snapping a three-game skid.

But against Ateneo, the team was back to doing its old habits – playing with lack of confidence and consistency.

“Ako binilbilang ko na ‘yan e, ‘yung mga talo sa Ateneo,” said Gorayeb after spending almost an hour holed up inside the NU dugout.

The Lady Bulldogs were among the pre-tournament favorites with intact lineup led by 6-foot-5 middle blocker Jaja Santiago and a pair of hard hitting spikers in Myla Pablo and Jorelle Singh.

But the multi-titled coach, who initially targeted a Top Two spot for NU heading to the playoffs, said he was left bewildered by the way the Lady Bulldogs lost to Ateneo.

The Lady Bulldogs, now in the bottom half of the eight-team standings with a 4-5 slate, gave away 21 points to the Lady Eagles through their errors in the one-hour, 22-minute match.
