ALTHOUGH she has seen little action so far with the Philippine Team in the Asian Under-23 Women’s Volleyball Championship, Ria Meneses is happy just to be part of the team and is confident her time will come.

It certainly helped to hear words of encouragement from her esteemed uncle, PBA great Vergel Meneses, who also suited up for the Philippine youth team before being tapped several times to wear the country’s colors in top international competitions including the Asian Games.

“Basta sabi niya maglaro ka lang ng maglaro,” said Ria.

"'Para madagdagan ang kaalaman mo sa volleyball, ’yung experience mo mas lumawak pa,' ’yun ang sabi niya sa akin,” she added.

It gives the young middle blocker added motivation to improve, but she said she needed no convincing to join the nation’s best and play for flag and country.

“Hindi rin ako nagdalawang isip kasi gusto ko rin maging part ng Philippine team,” she said.

She has been fielded just once, but the University of Santo Tomas standout said she is happy to be in a roster that features some of the best young players in the country led by UAAP MVP Alyssa Valdez.

“Masaya kasi biruin mo ’yung star ng mga school makakasama mo sa isang team,” she said.
