REBISCO-PSL Manila put on a brave stand but eventually bowed to Sarmayeh Bank of Iran, 23-25, 17-25, 27-29, in the classification phase of the 2017 AVC Asian Women's Club Championship on Tuesday at Boris Alexandrov Sports Palace in Ust-Kamenogorsk in Kazakhstan.

Iran national player Esfehani Maedeh Borhani made 17 points for Sarmayeh Bank, while Kolaei Mahdien Khaje contributed 13 markers.

Rebisco-PSL Manila threatened to extend the match when it took the set point twice, 24-23, after a Jaja Santiago attack and, 27-26, via Rachel Anne Daquis’ off-speed hit in the third set.

The Filipinos errors, however, allowed the Iranians to claw back and win the match.

Santiago led Rebisco-PSL Manila with 14 points, while Daquis had 10 markers and setter Kim Fajardo had 57 excellent sets in the match that took an hour and 38 minutes to finish.

The Manila team missed its chance for a fifth place finish, and dropped to the battle for seventh against the winner between Taiwan and Vietnam.
