CIGNAL advanced to the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference finals after dominating Sta. Elena, 25-23, 25-16, 25-17, on Saturday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Raymark Woo once again powered top seed Cignal with 22 points but also got the much-needed contribution from Bonn Castell as the HD Spikers swept the best-of-three semifinals and moved to the finals against Philippine Air Force starting on July 13.

The matchup will be the second time both teams will face each other for a crown, with Cignal winning the Reinforced Conference crown last November.

Castell had only eight points but helped give the HD Spikers momentum with six straight points to end the first set after the HD Spikers started cold and trailed by four points, 19-23.

“Maganda yung hugot ko sa kanya nung set first set,” Cignal head coach Michael Carino said of Castel,m who also had four blocks.

“Malaking bagay na din kasi malaki siya, tapos mataas din yung reach niya para mastop niya yung block. Sinabi ko sa kanila, sa kanya most specially, malaking bagay na mahawakan mo na ang bola malaking bagay na iyan dahil maangat natin yung bola,” added Carino.
