PETRON coach George Pascua admitted the team kept an eye on former player Rachel Anne Daquis n their Philippine Super Liga Invitational Conference face-off with RC Cola Army on Thursday at The Arena in San Juan.

The veteran coach said his team made the most of its familiarity with Daquis' game on the way to toppling RC Cola Army, 25-19, 29-27, 25-22, 14-25, 15-12, in the process joining the Lady Troopers in the final round.

Daquis played for the Tri-Activ Spikers for two conferences – including in the 2015 All Filipino tournament where she was named MVP.

“Alam na kasi ng mga (dating) kasama niya ‘yung laro niya, pamilyar din sila sa play niya,” said Pascua. “Si Rachel laging nasa backline (pumapalo) kaya medyo madali na naming bantayan.”

As a result, RC Cola Army coach Kungfu Reyes was forced to bench the comely outside hitter in the last two sets.

Pascua noted that his blockers also focused on Daquis, who was limited to only eight points as RC Cola Army absorbed its first loss in five games.

“Iisa lang naman ang palo ni Rachel, puro straight lang kaya pina-lock ko na ‘yung malalaking blockers,” he said.
