RICO de Guzman has been promoted from assistant to head coach as Pocari Sweat's three-time champion Rommel Abella was moved to a consultant role a little over a week before the new Premier Volleyball League conference opens.

Abella, who the Lady Warriors to back-to-back Shakey's V-League titles and led the squad to the first championship in the rebranded Premier Volleyball League.

The Premier Volleyball League Open Conference, a all-Filipino tournament, starts on July 1.

"We offered to coach Rico the position of head coach and we are glad that he accepted it," Pocari Sweat team manager Ken Mirasol told Spin.ph.

"What happened was, we promoted coach Rommel as consultant. Coach Rommel will now assist me in managing the team," said Mirasol.

"So, with the promotion of coach Rommel, nagkaron ngayon ng vacancy sa head coach position ng team," he added.
