CIGNAL defeated Philippine Army, 25-20, 25-19, 25-17, on Wednesday for its third win in as many matches in the Premier Volleyball League at The Arena in San Juan.

The HD Spikers moved to the top of the standings, ahead on set ratio over the idle Megabuilders Volley Bolts.

Peter Torres led Cignal with 12 points while Lorenzo Capate added 10. Team captain Ysay Marasigan and Philippine team member Mark Gil Alfafara chipped in nine points apiece.

"The job is not yet done. Mahaba pa itong tournament. I always tell my players that everyday is a learning day. We have to be prepared," said Cignal coach Oliver Almadro.

"Alam naman natin ma-dedeplete kami kasi 'yung mga national players aalis, at malaking kawalan sa amin 'yun, pero we will be prepared," he added.

Meanwhile, Instituto Estetico Manila Volley Masters swept the Gamboa Coffee Mix Spikers, 25-22, 25-17, 25-13, to record its second win in three matches.

Kurl Rosete led IEM with 13 points, Mark Christian Enciso scored nine and Greg Dolor added eight.

"Advantage naming makakuha ng makakuha ng panalo. Sa team ang kailangan ko na lang kasi sa kanila is 'yung mabuo sila na hindi na sila nag-iilangan tsaka lagi silang masaya. Kasi 'yung sa paglalaro ng volleyball nasa sa kanila na 'yan 'e, ang tinuturo ko na lang 'yung strategy," said IEM coach Renz Mauro Ordonez.

Cignal next battles Gamboa Coffee on Friday, while IEM takes on Megabuilders on Saturday.
