Perpetual Help solidifies Final Four chances with rout of Lyceum

Jan 10, 2014

DEFENDING champion University of Perpetual Help disposed Lyceum University of the Philippines, 25-10, 25-17, 25-20, to solidify its Final Four chances in the 89th NCAA women's volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan on Friday.

Honey Tubino finished with 19 points, Jamela Suyat chipped in eight, while reigning MVP Norie Diaz and Ana Diocareza added seven markers each for the Lady Altas, who won for the sixth time in eight games.

The victory enabled the Las Piñas-based spikers to stay firmly in third spot behind leaders Arellano (6-1) and College of St. Benilde (5-1).

But Lady Altas coach Sammy Acaylar remains hardly satisifed with where they are now considering semifinal aspirants San Beda and San Sebastian are not far behind with identical 5-2 win-loss cards.

"Delikado pa kami sa Final Four," he said of the three-peat-seeking Lady Altas. "Kaya pinag-iigihan namin. So I'm happy na nanalo kami in straight sets.”
