NATIONAL University absorbed a straight-set beating from treble-seeking La Salle but Lady Bulldogs skipper Jaja Santiago still found something to be happy about.

The Lady Bulldogs, who defeated the Lady Spikers in the first round, got a dose of their own medicine in their second meeting in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.

Santiago led the post-game huddle with her teammates and she was pleased with what she heard.

“Ako na 'yung kumausap sa teammates ko, sabi ko sa mga teammates ko na dapat itong game, dapat malaman kung saan tayo nagkulang,” she said.

“Narinig ko naman 'yung comments ng teammates ko na nagkulang kami sa puntos kapag kami ang sine-servan. 'Yun ang maganda, alam namin sa sarili namin kung saan kami nagkulang. Happy naman ako na di down 'yung team,” she added.

NU was in control of the game leading La Salle, 21-14, in the first set and, 17-10, in the second set.

But when the Lady Spikers fought back, the Lady Bulldogs could not respond.

The loss relegated NU at the No. 2 spot due to a inferior tie break despite an identical win-loss card with La Salle (6-2).

Still, Santiago remained optimistic coming into their next game against Ateneo on Saturday.

“Sabi nga ni coach Babes (Castillo), kailangan lang namin i-continue 'yung hardwork namin, manalo o matalo. Kailangan namin itaas 'yung standards namin,” she said.
