NATIONAL University clinched a spot in the playoffs after downing Adamson, 25-18, 22-25, 26-24, 25-19, on Wednesday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Lady Bulldogs scored their seventh win in 13 matches, securing a place in the semifinals with one match to spare. NU joins La Salle in the stepladder playoffs as Ateneo booked an outright finals spot with a sweep of the eliminations.

Jaja Santiago scored 25 on 18 spikes, six blocks and one service ace, Rizza Mandapat chipped in with 12 markers and Myla Pablo scored 11.

National U saved three sets points in the third set, scoring five straight to take the match lead, 2-1.

The fourth set was much easier for the Lady Bulldogs, who cruised to a 22-15 lead and sealed their third straight win.

“’Yung third set napakahirap nun, ang laki ng hinabol namin parang 16-11 tapos sumunod 23-20,” NU coach Roger Gorayeb said, adding that he was pleased to see the Lady Bulldogs handle the pressure well.

“Siyempre natutuwa ako kasi natututo na silang maghabol ng maghabol sa bola,” he said. “Yung intensity nila medyo tumataas. Kaso bumababa, umaakayat tapos bumababa.”

Mylene Paat and Jessica Galanza had 15 points, while Amanda Villanueva added 14 for the Lady Falcons, who dropped to 5-8 in joint fifth with University of Santo Tomas.
