No such thing as no-bearing Ateneo-DLSU game: Ara Galang in tears after loss
"Nagkulang kami," rues La Salle star Ara Galang. Jerome Ascano

TOP La Salle top hitter Ara Galang couldn't control her emotions after the loss to arch-rival Ateneo, 25-251, 22-25, 16-25, 25-21, 5-15, on Sunday in the UAAP Season 78 women's volleyball tournament.

Tears suddenly fell as Galang bowed her head and tried to hide behind her teammates while the Lady Eagles were singing their school hymn, shortly after the five-set thriller watched by close to 20,000 fans at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“Yes, oo, umiyak ako,” the soft-spoken Galang, who had 20 points for the Taft-based squad, admitted later.

“‘Yung iyak na ‘yun kasi parang inis lang din, frustration at saka ‘yun nga alam ko din naman na may pagkukulang ako sa last set. Sama lang ng loob ‘yung iyak na ‘yun,” she added.

Although the loss was a bitter pill to swallow, the pride of Angeles, Pampanga believed that she and the lady Spikers will rise again from the setback.

“Hindi ganoon kadali tanggapin syempre,  pero alam ko naman na magbe-benefit sa akin ‘tong game na ‘to,” she said.

Galang admitted that it wasn’t the most painful loss this season for her and the Lady Spikers, who also dropped games to National University and the University of Santo Tomas during the eliminations.

That, however, and the fact that the game had no bearing on the semifinal race except for the final seedings do not mean Galang can take the loss lightly.

“Honestly hindi (ito ang most painful) naman kasi mas for me mas mabigat ‘yung talo namin noong first round,” said the La Salle spearhead.

“Kasi ito non-bearing na lang din naman, siguro pride na lang naman, pero alam naman namin naglaro kami ng maganda, ‘yun nga lang nagkulang lang talaga.”
