Winless NCBA Wildcats hold heads high after gritty stand vs UP despite coach's absence

NATIONAL College of Business and the Arts was already bracing for the worst as they faced University of the Philippines without their coach Ernesto Balubar on the sidelines in the Spikers’ Turf Collegiate Conference at the Philsports Arena.

But acting NCBA playing coach Renz Ordonez was pleased the Wildcats came out with their best effort in a winnable game that they only let slip due to too many errors.

The Wildcats committed 42 errors against the 26 of the Maroons, which Ordonez said is crucial in their five-setter loss, 12-25, 25-27, 25-23, 27-25, 12-15, to UP.

“Okay naman ‘yung performance. May mga kailangan lang mabago like ‘yung errors, service errors, missed receives,” said Ordonez on what the NCBA team needs to break into the win column.

Ordonez also revealed Balubar was not able make it to their match against UP after the MRT broke down on Monday, and the coach's presence would have helped settle down the squad in the thrilling match.

“Nasiraan yung MRT (kanina), so hindi makakaabot,” Ordonez said.

“Sa preparation, sakto lang, yung communication with the setter lang, kasi una wala yung head coach nila so medyo na-down agad,” Ordonez added.
