EAC Generals one away from NCAA volleyball title after four-set win over Perpetual

EMILIO Aguinaldo College is one win away from back-to-back titles, downing University of Perpetual Help, 25-22 14-25, 25-14, 25-16, on Tuesday in the opener of the best-of-three finals of the NCAA volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

Reigning Most Valuable Player Howard Mojica led EAC with 22 points, with 17 kills including the game-winning hit, four blocks and a service ace.

Hariel Doguna and Kerth Melliza chipped in 12 points each as the Generals scored their third straight win over the Altas including the eliminations and playoff matches, although their first in the finals.

Melliza came up with 13 perfect receptions while Karlo Gorospe also had 14 digs for EAC.

The second match is on Friday.

“Nangyayari talaga sa mga bata na pinapasukan ng gigil and minsan talaga na nawawala sa sarili na alam nila sa sarili nila na kayang-kaya nila ang kalaban kaya kino-control ko rin,” said coach Rodrigo Palmero of the Generals, who had 41 errors.

“Sobrang kompiyansa kaya hinayaan ko rin muna na ma-realize nila ang kanilang pagkakamali para pagdating ng susunod na set maka-recover kaagad,” said Palmero.


Rey Taneo Jr. led the Altas with 10 points, while skipper Bonjomar Castel was held to only seven markers.
