Lyceum's Jhonel Badua, Joeward Presnede make it seven straight victories in NCAA beach volleyball

LYCEUM’s Jhonel Badua and Joeward Presnede survived two three-set wins on Friday to make it seven wins in as many matches in the NCAA beach volley tournament in Subic.

Badua and Presnede overcame a tough match against Arellano’s Kenneth Aliyacyac and Joshua Esguerra, 17-21, 21-18, 15-12, then beat Mapua's Rey Arth Andaya and Sam Damian, 21-13, 17-21, 15-12, for their seventh win in a row.

Perpetual help’s Relan and Rey Taneo beat San Sebastian's Christian Calonia and Jahir Ebrahim, 21-14, 21-17, to stay in second with a 6-0 win-loss record.

LPU and Perpetual Help part ways on Saturday, with the winner going straight to the finals.

"The boys have trained hard with an intention of winning it this year," said LPU coach Emil Lontoc.

In women's action, San Beda twins Maria Jeziela and Maria Nieza Viray downed Lyceum’s Czarina Pauline Orros and Cherilyn Jhane Sindayen, 21-19, 21-13, to seize the solo lead with a 6-0 record.

San Sebastian's Grethcel Soltones and Alyssa Eroa, who are gunning for their fourth straight crown, turned back Perpetual Help's Marjito Medalla and Maria Aurora Bianca Tripoli, 21-19, 21-18, for their fifth win in as many matches.

The Viray sisters battle Soltones and Eroa face off on Saturday for a finals berth.

The Red Spikers are gunning for their first ever title in the sport while the Lady Altas their fifth crown.
