THE Philippine women's volleyball team training was cancelled on Monday after most of the players could not attend due to training with their respective club teams.

According to a source, women’s head coach Francis Vicente had no choice but to cancel the 9 a.m. to 12 noon practice at Arellano Gym in Taft Avenue as no one from the 14 players were available.

Skipper Mika Reyes along with Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Rhea Dimaculangan and Ces Molina have regular practice with Petron, while Jaja Santiago and Maika Ortiz have training with Foton.

The F2 Logistics foursome of Aby Marano, Kim Fajardo, Dawn Macandili and Kim Dy, Cocolife’s Denden Lazaro, Cignal’s Jovelyn Gonzaga, and even the Vicente-coached Generika-Ayala’s Gen Casugod were also not present with each of their teams competing in the ongoing Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference.

Alyssa Valdez is also preparing for the coming Premier Volleyball League Open Conference on July 1.

“Ensayo ng national (team)? Cancelled, daming wala eh,” said the team insider.

After the announcement of the official lineup more than a week ago, the team has barely been complete in training, which was schedule every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning.

On the first training after Larong Volleyball sa PIlipinas, Inc. bared the lineup, only nine players were in attendance - Reyes, Valdez, Gonzaga, Lazaro, Maizo-Pontillas, Casugod, Dimaculangan, Molina and national pool member Ria Meneses.

The national team is set to see action in the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia in August 19-31 and the AVC Asian Women’s Seniors Championship in Alone Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna on August 9-17.
