Defending champion Pocari Sweat wins five-set nailbiter over Creamline to close in on semifinals

POCARI Sweat moved a step closer to clinching the third semis berth after defeating Creamline, 25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 18-25, 15-11, in the round robin quarterfinals of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.

American import Michelle Strizak led the way for Pocari Sweat with 30 points, Myla Pablo scored 12 and Desiree Dadang added  11.

The Lady Warriors improved to 2-0, one a win away from joining BaliPure and Power Smashers in the round of four.

“‘Yun naman ang sabi namin sa mga players namin, na we need to take it one game at a time,” said Pocari Sweat coach Rommel Abella.

“Since nanalo kami ng first game, we should bring the momentum going to the second game.”

“Ngayon, nanalo kami ng second game, (we should) bring the momentum again to the third game on Thursday which is against Perlas,” he added.

Kaewpin and Valdez both had 19 points for Creamline, while American reinforcement Laura Schaudt had 14.

Creamline dropped to 1-1.
