UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas defeated University of the East, 25-17, 25-15, 25-21, to bag its first win in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.

Sisi Rondina put on a show with a game-high 20 points and nine digs as the Tigresses evened their record after an opening-day loss to three-peat seeking La Salle.

“Magandang ‘yung bounce back kasi coming from a five-set loss tapos nakakuha agad ng straight set na laro,” said UST coach Kungfu Reyes.

The Tigresses recovered from a 10-12 deficit, using a 6-2 run to take the lead.

Rondina scored on back-to-back kills to widen the gap, 22-18, before she sealed the win with a powerful hit.

“‘Yun ang kailangan namin trabahuhin ngayon kasi yung tinatawag na consistency,” said Reyes.

“Ganda ng start namin ng first two sets, pero the very beginning ng third set, parang 'Okay lang, lamang tayo,’” he added.

Mary Ann Mendrez had 10 points for UE, which bowed to University of the Philippines in the opener.
