LARONG Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. will send the men's national team to South Korea to train as the national federation hopes for a podium finish in the Southeast Asian Games in August.

The team led by head coach Sammy Acaylar and skipper Johnvic de Guzman will fly abroad for a two-week training camp and tune-up games against some of South Korea’s best club teams from July 20-August 2.

The Men’s RP team last medal in the biennial meet was in 2005 when the squad won a bronze in the competition held in Manila.

“Dito kasi sa Pilipinas, wala talagang kalaban ang lalaki so kailangan talaga namin sa ibang bansa na makipagtunggali, makipaglaban doon,” said Acaylar on Friday after the team’s training at Arellano Gym in Taft Avenue.

“Whatever happens there, magiging learning lesson namin ‘yun, magiging challenge sa amin ‘yun,” he added.

But before the trip abroad, the team will have a pocket tournament against a team from Macau on July 13 to 15 at Imus Sports Complex.

Joining Acaylar and de Guzman are Ranran Abdilla, Relan Taneo, Geuel Asia, Mark Alfafara, Alden Cabaron, Reyson Fuentes, Bonjomar Castel, Herschel Ramos, Jack Kalingking, Greg Dolor, Peter Quiel and John Eduard Carascal.
