Perpetual Help moves to solo third with rout of winless Mapua

UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help moved to solo third spot in the NCAA Season 93 women’s volleyball tournament with a 25-18, 25-23, 25-12 rout of winless Mapua on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.

Skipper Maria Tripoli, Lourdes Clemente and Jowie Verzosa each had 11 points for Perpetual Help, which improved its win-loss record to 5-2 behind Arellano University and San Beda College (7-1).

“Solo no. 3 na. Pero hindi pa rin kami magiging kampante kasi we have two remaining games pa so one game at a time,” said Perpetual Help coach Macky Cariño.

The preparation paid off for the Lady Altas, who played tuneup matches with UAAP teams University of Sto. Tomas and Adamson University during the one week that they had no NCAA match.

“Hindi ko in-expect na ganyan ang lalaruin ng team ko pero siguro ang team ko unti-unti nagma-mature na,” said Cariño.

“Sabi ko ’yan naman ang plano ko na every game kailangan nagi-improve kasi kapag umabot na ng dulo o umabot semifinals ibang usapan na ’yun. So lahat ng na-gain mo through eliminations mailalabas mo sa semifinals,” he added.

Perpetual Help hit 13 service aces in the 65-minute match.

Dianne Latayan scored 10 points for Mapua, winless in seven matches.
