FIVE-time UAAP MVP Marck Espejo is set to see action in the Japan V1 League after completing his stint with Cignal in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference.

The former Ateneo star is will suit up for Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler volleyball club starting in September. Espejo, who won three UAAP championships with the Blue Eagles, is set to leave for Japan in August.

“Isa sa pinaka goal ng isang atleta na, after sa Philippines, makapaglaro sa abroad,” said Espejo at a press conference on Sunday at Buffalo Wild Wings in Pasay City.

“Ang feeling ko super saya na nakakakaba talaga.”

“Siguro kailangan pa magtrabaho kasi iba talaga ang laro sa Philippines and sa Japan kasi sobrang taas talaga ng level. So ’yung nilalaro ko dito sa Philippines is hindi pa siya enough para mag-compete sa Japan,” he added.

Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler coach Takashi Ogawa said University of the Philippines women’s volleyball team coach Godfrey Okumu introduced Espejo to them.

Espejo went to Japan for tryouts last December, while Ogawa and other team officials came to the Philippines to witness their recruit play in the UAAP.

Incidentally, the German words Weisse Adler means White Eagle in English.

He will be back next year for the PVL and the national team seeing action in the 30th Southeast Asian Games in Manila.

Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler competed in the 2014 AVC Asian Men’s Club Championship in Manila.
