CIGNAL HD fended off Philippine Army, 25-16, 22-25, 25-18, 24-26, 15-10, on Wednesday to stay on top of the standings in the Premier Volleyball League at the Filoil Arena in San Juan.

Marck Espejo scored 28 markers from 23 attacks and four receptions, while Ysay Marasigan added 16 points as the HD Spikers improved their win-loss record to 4-1.

The Cignal HD Spikers raised their alarms during the second set, when the Troopers dominated the first few minutes.

Army suffered its fourth loss in five matches, but coach Rico de Guzman was still pleased to see the Troopers stretch the league-leading HD Spikers to five sets.

“It’s a good performance for them… We just need to improve our defense and minimize our errors,” de Guzman said.

Patrick Rojas scored 16 points for the Troopers.
