THE members of the Philippine national pool for both the women’s and the men’s squads will be named next week, Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas Inc. (LVPI) president Joey Romasanta said on Tuesday.

Romasanta said he will meet with national head coaches Francis Vicente (women’s) and Sammy Acalyar (men’s) on Monday where the members of the pool will be finalized.

“The coaches will still have to meet on Monday (March 13). Hopefully, they will be ready for Tuesday (March 14) as to the information to the composition of the national pool,” said Romasanta during Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum at the Golden Phoenix Hotel.

Tryouts were organized by the LVPI and were held in Manila (January 28, 29, and 31), Cebu (February 18 to 19), and Davao (February 23 to 25)in search for players who are interested to join the national team.

The first day of tryouts in Manila drew 37 women players including big names such as Jovelyn Gonzaga, Mika Reyes, and Rachel Ann Daquis.

Alyssa Valdez also participated in the tryout held in Davao City after flying in from Thailand where she is playing for 3BB Nakornnont.

The pool will be the source of players who will carry the Philippine team in the Asian Under-23 Championship, Asian Women’s Seniors Championship, and the Southeast Asian Games.

Romasanta said it will be up to the coaches how many players will be part of the pool.

“It may be a pool of 15, 18, 20, or 24. It will all depend on the coaches,” said Romasanta.

Meanwhile, a final tryout will be held this Sunday for UAAP and NCAA players that will be invited by the coaching staff.
