LVPI admits failure to invite Jia Morado, three other Ateneo players to national tryouts
Jia Morado, awarded Best Setter in the Asean University Games in 2015 and a member of the Philippine team to the Asian Under-23 tournament that year, says she would like to play again for the national team. Jerome Ascano

LARONG Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. admitted failing to send invitations to Jia Morado and three other Ateneo stars to the special tryouts for the national teams but said a separate trial will be held for the players.

Lady Eagles Morado, Maddie Madayag, Kat Tolentino and Blue Eagles star Marck Espejo will be invited to take part in a tryout to be arranged by the LVPI.

After a nationwide tryout in Manila, Cebu and Davao, LVPI held a special tryout on Sunday for the UAAP players who did not make it to the three legs.

The federation earlier said the four Ateneo players were invited but on Thursday admitted the letters did not reach the players due to mishandling of the official documents.

"The LVPI is humbly taking responsibility for its failure to invite four Ateneo stars," LVPI acting president Peter Cayco said in a statement on Thursday.

"It was a clerical and administrative error on our part and all along we were under the impression that these young players were invited through proper the channel," he added.

Cayco said LVPI already has communicated with Ateneo athletic director Emmanuel Fernandez and apologized for the misunderstanding.

"It won't stop us from fulfilling our mission of assembling the strongest team possible," said Cayco.

"Again, we are deeply sorry. Let us put this episode behind and rally behind our players who will embark on a grueling journey to international prominence," he concluded.
