Ateneo admits Morente departure a 'big loss' but injury-depleted Lady Eagles not in panic mode
The Lady Eagles consider Mich Morente's departure a big loss.

ATENEO admitted the departure of former star Mich Morente a big loss especially with four players in the Lady Eagles roster injured.

Ateneo top hitter Jhoanna Maraguinot sustained a left ankle sprain, Ana Gopico has been nursing a hamstring injury, Maddie Madayag played through a sprained ankle and Kim Gequillana suffered an ACL injury on her left knee.

But Lady Eagles team manager Tony Boy Liao pointed out that though Morente’s loss is tough, there's nothing they can do about it.

"Of course it's a big loss for us that she's gone from the team but we can't do anything because it's her own doing," Liao told

"She knew what she was supposed to do since the first time she got suspended," he added.

Morente was ruled ineligible to play for the UAAP Season 80 due to academic issues. In Season 78, she also suffered the same fate for the same reason.

Reports and sightings have spotted the former Ateneo star with the La Salle team and has reportedly enrolled as an AB Psychology student at the Taft-based university.

Liao, however, stressed that the team is not yet pressing the panic button as the volleyball season starts either late January or early Fabruary next year.

"With regards to our players with injuries, it's really unfortunate but at least the UAAP (volleyball) season will only begin next year so we still have lots of time to prepare and our injured players to recover," said Liao.
