LA Salle recovered from a momentary shock and cruised to a 25-22, 25-22,25-21 victory over a listless Ateneo side on Saturday at the start of the UAAP women's volleyball finals at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Lady Spikers started cold and fell 1-7 but quickly found their groove and zoomed to a stunning straight-sets victory in front of a crowd of 19,961.

La Salle can regain the title it last won two seasons ago when the Lady Spikers and Lady Eagles clash anew on Wednesday at the MOA Arena.

"Lahat naman ng teams pinapangarap yun championship so sana sa amin na 'tong year na ito," said La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus, whose team bowed to Ateneo in the title series the past two seasons.

"Napaka importante ng Game One kasi bumalik 'yung tiwala ng bawat player ko napakahirap kasing makuha 'yun eh lalo na kung ganitong back-to-back champion ang lalabanan mo," he added.

Kim Dy scored 15, Mika Reyes had 13 points, while Ara Galang and Mary Joy Baron had 10 each.

Alyssa Valdez had 17 points, 15 from attacks, for Ateneo.
