LA Salle spiker Des Cheng may have missed her graduation march but had no regrets in choosing to help the Lady Spikers score a big win over University of the Philippines in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament.

It was a no brainer for the fourth year La Salle spiker in prioritizing to suit up for the game at The Arena in San Juan on Saturday rather than her graduation ceremony over at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.

Her decision proved right as the Lady Spikers defeated UP, 25-21, 25-22, 26-24, with Cheng scoring 10 points and seven excellent receptions.

“Obviously, it’s priorities talaga. Priority ko ‘yung volleyball ngayon kasi it’s UAAP pero siyempre kung ibang liga, maybe magma-march na lang ako,” said Cheng, who took up Sports Management.

“It’s okay worth it naman eh, panalo kami and maganda naman ‘yung laro ng team. Everything is good,” she added. “Double celebration na siya actually, nanalo kami and it’s my graduation.”

Asked if she had any graduation gift in mind, Cheng had a quick answer.

“‘Yung win talaga (ang gusto ko). Kung natalo kami, malaking pagalit kay coach. Siyempre ayaw niya mangyari yun,” she said.

Cheng, however, still has one more chance to march in a graduation ceremony as she’s taking up a post-graduate course on marketing.

“Okay lang since I’m taking my masters ngayon, so doon ko na lang i-loolook forward. Doon na lang ako magma-march. It’s okay talaga, no big deal,” she said.

Aside from Cheng, Carmel Saga also missed her graduation ceremony.
