Macandili says focus on La Salle title quest, not on battle for top libero with UE's Arado

DAWN Macandili may be behind University of the East counterpart Kath Arado in the matchup of top defense specialists, but the La Salle libero kept her eyes on the top prize--the championship in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament.

Macandili, though, won the individual battle against Arado in the Lady Spikers’ rout of the Lady Warriors, 25-8, 25-14, 25-12, on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.

At the end of the match, which took an hour and nine minutes to finish, Macandili had 19 digs, while Arado had 15 digs and 11 excellent receptions.

“It doesn’t really bother me kasi ang importante is ‘yung result ng team,” said Macandili. “Hindi ko naman masyadong finofocus ang individual awards.”

“Kasi kung makakuha man ako, eh ‘di ok, thank you, ganoon. Pero kung hindi man ako makakuha ok lang basta makuha namin ang championship,” she added.

The 2017 PSA Miss Volleyball added that going up against UE and Arado was just another game that they had to overcome.

“Ngayon, same as any game naman, gagawin mo ang lahat para magawa mo ‘yung role mo inside the court,” she said.

Meanwhile, Macandili’s wish of a championship is almost within reach as La Salle remains on track for their third straight title, 11th overall.

The Lady Spikers’ win over the Lady Warriors was their ninth victory in 11 outings as they booked their ninth Final Four appearance and 18th post-season stint overall.

For the pint-sized libero from Tanuan, Batangas, she won’t stop until they reach their goal.

“Every game naman sobrang motivated kami na maglaro and makuha ‘yung win kasi patapos na ‘tong UAAP so parang kung hindi ka pa mag-o-all out, kailan ka pa mag-o-all out,” she said.

La Salle will get back on the court on April 8 when it faces University of Santo Tomas after a two-week break, Adamson University on April April 11 and Ateneo on April 15.
