LA Salle defeated National University, 27-25, 27-25, 25-16, to grab a share of the lead in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.

Kim Dy had 14 points for the Lady Spikers, Des Cheng had 13 and skipper Majoy Baron added 11.

The Lady Archers notched their sixth victory in eight matches, joining the Lady Bulldogs on top of the standings.

“Morale booster ‘yun sa amin kasi No. 1 sila tapos talo kami ng first round. Nakita namin ang mistakes namin noong first round,” said La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus.

“So ‘yun naman ang sinabi ko sa mga bata, laruin niyo lang ang alam niyong galaw and kung ano ang pina-practice natin so eventually makikita niyo kung magbe-benifit din ‘yung team,” he added.

La Salle showed steely nerves, erasing a 14-21 deficit in the first set and 10-17 in the second set.

“Ang maganda kasi nandon naman talaga ‘yung kapit, kahit noong Ateneo game medyo malayo na ang score ng Ateneo pero kapag gusto nilang kumapit, kumakapit talaga,” said de Jesus.

The Lady Spikers registered more blocks, 9-5, and service aces, 13-5, in the one hour and 30-minute match.

Skipper Jaja Santiago scored 13 points and Risa Sato added 11 for NU.
